2010 Nissan Leaf Electric Car

The super good news is Nissan just announced their new car, Nissan Leaf, which is the first all-electric car in the world, now more and more people are crazy about this new car. So let’s discuss it here today.

The 2010 Nissan Leaf will go on sale in Japan, North America and Europe late in 2010; it will seat five adults and has a range of more than 100 miles on a full charge, with a top speed of 190 mph. What’s cool about this car is, a bank of Lithium Iron batteries provide power to the leaf, which have been developed by Nissan and computer maker NEC. Nissan has done a lot of work with the safety of these batteries, so will not catch on fire if the car is involved in an accident.

What’s better, a full charge of the battery from a standard home power socket will take around 8 hours in Europe, but around 16 hours in Japan and the U.S. as they use a lower voltage. There are plans to launch a number of quick charge station, these will replenish the batteries in around 30 minutes.

The car looks much like other mass market models. Despite its name, the design doesn’t scream “eco-car” and, unlike some electric vehicles of the past, space inside isn’t compromised. Capable of seating five, Ghosn and three Japanese politicians with connections to Yokohama, including former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, emerged from the “blue earth” colored Leaf with ease after it appeared on the stage.

Nissan said about the Nissan Leaf Electric Car:

From the beginning, we did not want to make the car very strange, because one of the perceptions of the EV [is that] people think that EVs are toys, or cheap… that you cannot drive high-speed, that EV means ”not real car.” But the car we have is a real car – you can drive it at 140 kilometers, you can sit four or five passengers comfortably.

Powered by a unique array of thin, laminated lithium ion cells capable of delivering over 90 kW of power, the Leaf’s front-mounted electric motor delivers 80 kW (107 horsepower) and a healthy 280 Nm of torque (208 pound-feet), and it promises brisk and silent off-the-line power, with acceleration from a stop comparable to that of the company’s Infiniti G35. And as Nakamura-san noted, the Leaf has a top speed of over 140 km/h (87 mph).

I’m sure the 2010 Nissan Leaf Electric Car will be super hot when it is officially on sale, and it would be the coolest car next year.

So what do you think about the 2010 Nissan Leaf?
